Sacred Serpentine- Introduction to Bellydance Workshop with Tara


Bellydance, or Middle Eastern dance, is considered to be one of the oldest forms of dance, having roots in many ancient cultures. Throughout history, this ritualized expression has usually been performed for other women, generally during fertility rites or parties, preparing a young woman for marriage or childbirth. Bellydance has a deep connection with the Earth and through finding its rhythm, it can be a dynamic method to experience the energies of the universe.This 1.5 hour workshop is designed for the absolute beginner looking to explore the many benefits of bellydance-mentally, physically and spiritually. We will learn basic movements and isolations and expand on this through dance combinations all to a really good playlist. We will also cover a brief history and evolution of bellydance as it is today. Participants will receive an information packet. Hip Scarves will be provided. Come in comfortable and fitted clothing with a water bottle and optional notebook for note taking.

Tara McLaughlin is a NYC based fusion bellydancer, teacher, producer, creator and performing artist. Born in Puerto Rico, rooted in Brooklyn and raised in South Florida, Tara has been fortunate to train under internationally acclaimed bellydance and tribal fusion dancers. She started studying back in 2007 in Miami with Bozenka and the Mid- Eastern Dance Exchange. Currently, she studies under Irina Akulenko, Alice’ Giampieri and Brinda Guha. Tara also has been fortunate to train under such well known fusion dancers as Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, and Donna Mejia and Colleena Shakti.
For over ten years, Tara has been extremely dedicated to dance. In January 2014, she moved back to New York and hit the ground dancing both taking classes and performing. Within one year, she received certification from The Bellyqueen Teacher training program and has since been teaching private lessons, workshops and classes in both New York and Florida
